Mayoral candidate Matt Morrissey today filed campaign finance reports showing real momentum in his bid to bring a new generation of leadership to New Bedford.

Morrissey’s campaign finance reports, filed today at City Hall, showed more than $60,000 raised through September 16. The campaign is preparing additional campaign finance reports that will be filed tomorrow morning, indicating an additional $10,000 raised in the last 10 days.

“What I am most proud of is the contributions of sweat, talent, and hope that hundreds of New Bedford citizens are making to the cause of a brighter future for our community,’’ Morrissey said. “This campaign is all about engaging real people in the real work of moving New Bedford forward.”

A few highlights of the Morrissey campaign finance reports:

$61,363 was raised in the first 132 days of fundraising – $465 per day – including a $10,000 personal loan from Morrissey to the campaign.

In the last 10 days, the campaign raised $10,222 - $1,022 per day.

The campaign has raised $9,254 online, a first for New Bedford.

Two additional fundraisers are scheduled between now and the preliminary election, plus already committed contributions, will raise an additional $10,000 by Oct. 4.

The campaign is on target to exceed its preliminary election target of $80,000 and position the campaign for general election fundraising targets and success.

The campaign has been in constant contact with the Office of Campaign and Political Finance to assure the highest level of ethical standards are met.
