Mayoral candidate Matt Morrissey today called on Mayor Kalisz to halt the razing of the Wamsutta Mills until the Historical Commission, City Council and neighbors have a chance to review the idea.

“Today’s news that the city has approved the demolition of the Wamsutta Mills without any serious input from the people who will be most affected by it,’’ Morrissey said. “This is just the latest in a string of back room deals designed to shut citizens out of decisions that will have enormous long-term economic and social impacts on our community. We need a City Hall with no back rooms and we deserve a mayor who will consider the concerns of real citizens rather than just the privileged few. Before we consider tearing down any potentially historic structure we need to seriously consider the impact on the community.”
