NEW BEDFORD -- The vice-chairman of
the city's human relations
commission, Dr. Guillermo Gonzalez,
has resigned from his appointed post
in order to "join the campaign
efforts to elect Matt Morrissey as
our next Mayor."
In a short resignation letter that
Dr. Gonzalez, a local psychiatrist,
submitted to Mayor Frederick M.
Kalisz Jr. last week, he said that
"my resignation is needed to avoid
any apparent conflict of interest.
Thanks very much for the opportunity
to serve the honorable goal of
improving human relations in the
city."
Last week, Dr. Gonzalez wrote a
letter to the editor, giving the
city a "D" in human relations. "The
city lacks a cohesive and and
coherent vision for the future," he
wrote. "Denying the city's problems
also does not help in finding
solutions to those problems."
