He is a natural leader of uncommon
talent, he understands the
tremendous importance of leadership
and vision, but more importantly, he
is a good person who walks the walk
of inclusion, collaboration and
respect for all people.
Dr. Bruce Rose, New Bedford
native, assistant provost at
UMass Dartmouth and second vice
president of the city’s chapter
of the NAACP
I know that Matt Morrissey will
listen – not just when the cameras
and lights are on – because he knows
us. He has walked in our shoes. His
initial idea and plan to create a
theatre company at our vocational
high school is based on the idea
that we all have something valuable
to offer, whether that be an idea to
make our community a better place or
a creative expression. The program
has given hope to many high school
students like me. We need a little
hope and we need someone who truly
believes that New Bedford can be so
much more. Matt for Mayor!

I have a lot of respect and
admiration for Matt, and I am in awe
of this man’s capabilities and what
this means for the city of New
Bedford.

Bedford Resident, Co-Founder of

Matt is an exciting prototype for
21st century political leadership.
He is extremely bright, creative
and, most important, genuinely
passionate about helping his
community achieve its potential.
Having worked side by side with Matt
for two years, I know that he has
the purest of motives; he seeks
office not for personal gain, but
for the realization of his
neighbors' dreams.

I have known Matt for over five
years now and have seen him in
action to work openly and honestly
with multiple stakeholders and be a
true problem solver. I was
personally disappointed in Matt’s
decision to leave the management
consulting profession because he was
very good at it. Matt’s heart,
however, was in the economic growth
and development of the South Coast
of Massachusetts and I think his
political ambitions are another
example of his seeing solvable
issues for the City of New Bedford.

For me, Matt represents the best of
New Bedford. From a North End New
Bedford family, Matt is a product of
local schools and shows in his life
story the promise of our future. At
a time when the mayor has gotten
tired and complacent, Matt has the
energy, ability and vision and the
will that we need now. If you spend
some time talking with Matt, then I
think you will come to the same
conclusion I have – this energetic
leader can stop the drift. It’s time
to pass the baton.
John K. Bullard of New
Bedford served as mayor from
1986 to 1992. He is now
president of Sea Education
Association in Woods Hole.
Matt is a young man far beyond his
years, both in experience and
maturity. For 40 years, as the Dean
of Student’s at the University, it
has been my business to assess
leadership ability in people. Of the
thousands of students whose lives I
have been involved with, Matt ranks
within the top 1%. New Bedford will
do better with Matt Morrissey as our
next Mayor.
